JAGUAR: many new developments and a new top-of-the-range model

CLAAS is presenting the JAGUAR 990 as the new top-of-the-range model in the 900-series forage harvester line-up. The machine is also available with TERRA TRAC crawler tracks.

The JAGUAR 970 is equipped with a new engine, which meets the requirements of the Stage V emission standard while both the 900 and 800 model series have a new control concept with CEBIS Touch and many other updates.

Maximum efficiency with up to 925 hp

The JAGUAR 990 takes the maximum engine output available in the 900 model series to 925 hp / 680 kW. The MAN V12 has a displacement of 24 litres and is also available as an 850 hp / 625 kW version in the JAGUAR 980. Also new is the MAN D4276 straight six in the JAGUAR 970. This unit develops 790 hp / 581 kW from its displacement of some 16 litres. The displacement of almost 3 litres per cylinder promises a stable power curve with sustained torque. As a result, the JAGUAR 970 has the best figures in its class with regard to fuel consumption per tonne of harvested material.

The power output of the 960 and 940 models has also increased, as has that of the JAGUAR 880 and 860 in the 800 model series. All the new engines comply with the relevant emission standards for their markets up to Stage V. The exhaust emissions of the JAGUAR 960-840 models are cleaned by selective catalytic reduction (SCR) in combination with a diesel particulate filter.

New CEBIS with touchscreen control for all JAGUAR models

The new CEBIS with a touchscreen gives the operator fast and easy access to all the machine functions. The most important adjustments can be made directly by means of switches on the armrest. Operating the JAGUAR is intuitive and possible without previous knowledge. This means that even new operators can handle the machine safely and reliably in a very short time and use its performance capacity to the full. The operator can adjust or operate the JAGUAR in four ways, as required:

  • A simple tap on the touchscreen and the new CEBIS terminal reacts by providing direct access to all machine functions.
  • Seven settings can be programmed as favourites and accessed by rocker switches on the CMOTION control lever.
  • CEBIS rotary/push switch and pushbutton
  • Direct adjustment via switches in the armrest

An optimum view under all conditions is ensured by the wide range of adjustment options provided for the CEBIS terminal. From its normal position in the operator's field of vision, the screen can be pivoted to the right, next to the armrest. This means that the operator has an optimal view of the entire front attachment when harvesting laid maize, for example.

A new steering column allows the position of the steering wheel to be optimised to meet the operator's requirements. The new dynamic steering makes steering the machine more comfortable than ever. At up to 10 km/h, the operator only needs 2/3 turns of the wheel to go from full left lock to full right. From 10 km/h, the steering wheel turns required are increased dynamically. From 20 km/h, for the sake of safe driving at higher speeds, the full number of steering wheel turns is available again. Dynamic steering is activated in CEBIS. It is possible to adjust the number of steering wheel turns required at any time.

New: CEMOS AUTO PERFORMANCE controls engine power and driving speed

With CEMOS AUTO PERFORMANCE, the JAGUAR keeps the set speed constant and regulates engine power and driving speed according to the crop mass. As the crop mass increases, the engine power is first increased and then the driving speed is reduced. If the crop mass is lower, the engine power is reduced automatically. This keeps the engine speed constant and eliminates abrupt load changes. This results in an even crop flow with high operational reliability and lower fuel consumption. The driver is relieved especially in demanding harvesting situations.

Precise silage additive dosage for excellent forage quality

The intelligent systems within the JAGUAR form the basis for excellent forage quality, either with precisely dosed additives from the 375-litre tank or highly concentrated ones from the new ACTISILER 37. This double-wall tank also protects the silage additive concentrate from high outside temperatures. The pump enables precise dosage from 0.2-20 l/h, or, based on throughput, 10-50 ml/t.

The dry matter content value determined by the near infrared sensor serves as a reference for setting the length of cut and the additives. As well as measuring the dry matter content, the NIR sensor determines constituents which vary depending on the crop concerned. The values measured can be used as the basis for documentation.

CEBIS provides the operator with a clear overview of the automatic interplay between the length of cut and the silage additive dosage applied on the basis of the measured dry matter content.

New V-MAX drum and standard-fit hydraulic precompression for JAGUAR 900

With 42 knives and a cutting frequency increased to 25,200 cuts/min, the new V-MAX 42 knife drum can deliver particularly high throughput. Using the full engine output, it is able to provide top-quality chopped material at short lengths of cut from 3.5 to 12.5 mm. For longer cuts in grass and SHREDLAGE, the drum can be operated with a third of the number of knives. The new V-MAX 42 is available as an option for the JAGUAR 990, 980 and 970.

Hydraulic precompression under intelligent control ensures consistently high quality of the chopped material and is now standard in the 900 model series. Acting on the basis of pre-programmed control characteristics, hydraulic rams with pressure reservoirs automatically adjust the precompression pressure applied in order to accommodate different crops and changes in the thickness of the crop flow. This solution ensures uniform quality of the chopped material, even under difficult conditions.

The feeder housing has been revised to provide maximum operational reliability. The reinforced feed roller is designed for maximum throughput, and larger wear plates on the sides of the precompression rollers reduce dirt and noise. Maintenance is facilitated by the use of clamps to secure the rollers.

The significantly improved sealing of the sharpening system on the knife drum housing reduces dirt ingress and noise. The service life of the drum bearings has been doubled. A flat-face coupling makes for easier maintenance of feeder housing and knife drum housing.

TERRA TRAC – perfectly integrated and narrow on the road

As a result of the decades of TERRA TRAC experience which CLAAS can call on, this technology is integrated perfectly in the new JAGUAR 990 and 960. The pivoting mounting system allows the machine to be operated in even the most difficult conditions. The crawler track units are able to oscillate upwards by 10° and downwards by 13° with robust end stops limiting their vertical travel.

The headland protection system of the TERRA TRAC crawler drive system comes into its own in grassland. During a turning manoeuvre, the support rollers in each track unit are pushed down hydraulically, the front drive roller is raised and the contact area is reduced by about a third.

This results in the visible avoidance of damage to the grass cover by the shear effect when turning. Measurements by Kiel University of Applied Sciences have shown that the soil pressure with the support rollers lowered is less than that exerted by a wheeled machine.

On the road, too, the 960 TERRA TRAC sets new standards. Equipped with the 635 mm tracks, external width remains below 3.0m, making it very straightforward to license for use on public roads. With the wide 890 mm tracks, the machine remains within an external width of 3.5 metres. The suspended crawler track system enables a top speed of up to 40 km/h and provides optimal driving comfort.

The extended wheelbase results in a significantly larger maintenance compartment and excellent accessibility by means of maintenance panels above the crawler tracks. The corncracker, for example, can be removed very easily above the crawler track on the right side.

JAGUAR 800 with more powerful front attachment drive

The JAGUAR 800 is equipped with a reinforced front attachment drive. The four-groove drive and front axle have been completely revised. As a result, the DIRECT DISC 600 can also be used on the JAGUAR 880 (880 only for UK, Ireland and Italy) and 870.

An increase in the system pressure increases the tractive force of the hydrostatic drive by 11% in the JAGUAR 800. This provides reserves, even under very difficult conditions. What's more, the 800 series is also equipped with the new CLAAS control concept.
